Sarasota Juvenile Criminal Defense Lawyer
Let Our Firm Protect Your Child’s Rights & Future
As a child, making mistakes is part of growing up. Unfortunately, there are some mistakes that violate Florida criminal laws and lead to serious consequences. Not only does a conviction in juvenile court can result in spending time in a detention center, but it can also cause significant damage to a child’s reputation and future.
If you or your minor child is in trouble with the law, the Law Offices of Eric Reisinger, PA will make certain that your constitutional rights are protected, and that the focus of any penalties is rehabilitation rather than punishment. Our Sarasota juvenile criminal defense attorney offers comprehensive criminal defense counsel to minors who have been charged with offenses other than traffic violations.
Our firm handles cases involving:
- Alcohol or drug charges, from minors in possession to drunk driving to possession, sale or trafficking of controlled substances
- Theft offenses such as shoplifting, grand or petty larceny, burglary or robbery
- Violent crimes, including sex offenses, assault and battery, and even homicide
- Destruction of property or similar charges such as vandalism
- So-called “status offenses” such as truancy

Juvenile Justice System in Florida
Juvenile court has jurisdiction over crimes committed before a minor’s 18th birthday. The focus of the juvenile court system is on rehabilitation, which means first-time offenders are often eligible for pre-trial diversion programs, which include counseling, community service, restitution, and other conditions. Completion of a diversion program will lead to the dismissal of your case.
On the other hand, adult court is designed to punish, rather than rehabilitate. Children as young as 14 years of age can be tried as adults if they are accused of certain violent crimes and sex crimes (e.g. murder, sexual assault, armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, etc.). A conviction in adult court will result in imprisonment.
